Shubh Diwali Celebration with SciCook

A warm display of Indian sweets and diyas celebrating a festive occasion indoors.

Shubh Diwali! SciCook was honored to host our first Diwali community celebration — an evening of light, flavor, and togetherness that brought together community members from all backgrounds to experience one of India's most beloved festivals.

A Festival of Light, Flavor, and Community

The event featured a curated spread of traditional Diwali sweets and savories prepared by our team, drawing on Dr. Sathaliya's personal family recipes and SciCook's commitment to nutritious, science-informed cooking. Guests enjoyed:

  • Carrot Halwa — a beloved Indian sweet made with freshly grated carrots, reduced-fat milk, and natural sweeteners
  • Mango Lassi — a refreshing probiotic drink made with real mango and cultured yogurt
  • Fermented Lentil Pops — our signature snack combining traditional fermentation techniques with modern nutrition science
  • Paneer Tikka Masala — a protein-rich crowd favorite prepared with house-ground spice blends

More Than a Meal

Guests also participated in a cultural storytelling session with Dr. Sathaliya, who shared the significance of Diwali — the festival of lights — and connected its themes of hope, renewal, and community to SciCook's mission. "Every meal we share is its own small Diwali," he told the crowd. "A moment of light in someone's day."

Children decorated clay diyas (oil lamps), families shared stories, and the evening concluded with a community dinner that stretched well past sundown.

Thank You

We're deeply grateful to everyone who joined us — and to our incredible volunteers who spent two days preparing for this event. Events like this remind us why we do this work: food has the power to bridge cultures, build community, and nourish the soul.
